DETAIL: A monumental realist painting by Andrew Coates, originally purchased through WH Patterson of Albermale Street London .Coates was born in Mitcham, Surrey and grew up in New Zealand and now lives in Beer, Devon. Andrew has perfected a meticulous “pointillism” style. The work is painstaking, sometimes taking over one month to complete a painting. His style is representational, precise, almost photographic, but with the extra dimensions of mood and depth. Andrew’s prowess lies in bringing to life landscapes, creating images that are almost hypnotic in their attraction, through his subtle treatment of light and shadows on the landscape. Sunsets, seas, rivers, cornfields, all come to life through this deft and sensitive execution.Andrew has exhibited at the Royal Academy and he won the Goldline Award for landscape painting at the Mall Galleries. Three leading New Zealand public galleries still show his work and the famous opera singer Kiri te Kanawa is a collector. He has been represented by the Marine House Gallery, Beer Devon for many years. His works of this size currently sell for between £8,000 and £12,000.
