DETAIL: Hugh Ralph Micklem was a painter, born in Hendon, who studied at the Central School of Arts & Crafts under Bernard Meninsky and William Roberts. He also went on to study at Westminster School of Art under Mark Gertler and Emslie Owen, 1935-37. Following war service in India, he attended Harrow School of Art where he obtained his National Design Diploma in 1949. His first solo exhibition was in 1947 at the Rowley Gallery in South Kensington, London and subsequently many more at the Alpine Gallery, Cooling Galleries and the Walker’s Gallery. A regular exhibitor at the RBA and ROI he also exhibited at the RP and his many commissions include HRH The Duke of Gloucester. Elected as a member of the Armed Forces Art Society in 1951 he was later appointed their treasurer. Examples of his work are in the collections of Buckingham County Council, Bushey Museum, the Government Art Collection and the National Army Museum.

DETAIL: Simple is beautiful, no fuss to this charming impressionist oil painting dating to 1979. Born in Hendon Middlesex, Micklem studied at the Central School Of Arts & Crafts under Bernard Meninsky and then at Westminster School Of Art under Mark Gertler and Emslie Owen. He is represented in a number of public art collections such as the Government Art Collection and Buckinghamshire County Council.
