DETAIL: Painter in oil and watercolour, born in Cornwall, where she settled at St Dominic, Callington. Almost all of Martin’s work was done out-of-doors, where she worked swiftly to capture changing effects of light, flowers being a special feature. She did her pre-diploma studies at West of England College of Art in Bristol, diploma at Cheltenham College of Art and postgraduate work at Royal Academy Schools which she left in 1975 to paint full-time. She was the subject of a BBC Television film in the Look, Stranger! series, Daffodils, Bullions and Steam. Martin showed in mixed exhibitions including RA from 1975; New Grafton Gallery, from 1979; Interceltic Festival, Lorient, France, 1982; and Oliver Swann Galleries, 1988. She was a frequent solo exhibitor, showing at St Dominic Parish Hall, 1976; Plymouth City Museum and Art Gallery, 1978; later ones including Oliver Swann, 1989, and St Dominic Parish Hall, 1990.National Trust, National Maritime Museum in Greenwich and Plymouth’s Art Gallery hold examples.
