DETAIL: Peter Pollág was born in Levoča, Slovakia in 1958. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava (1977–1983), at the Accademia di Belle Arti Pietro Vanucci in Perugia (1980), the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (1984–1989), the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris (1986–1987) and at the Facultad de Bellas Artes at Universidad Complutense de Madrid (1988). Between 1983 and 1990. he taught at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava. Later, as an assistant at the university, he completed internships in Paris, San Fernando (Spain) and Madrid. Thematically, his work ranges from mythological metaphors, novel biblical interpretations and historical or literary stories in which the human figure is the main subject and prism of perception. Travel is used as an inspirational tool to nourish his narrative preferences. China and the continent of Africa are Pollág’s favoured destinations. In addition to painting, Pollág practises drawing, book illustration, graphic design and sculpture.His first exhibition was at the Cité des Arts in Paris in 1987. Since then, he has shown work on virtually every continent.
