DETAIL: Printer, born in Edinburgh. He studied at Edinburgh College of Art 1941-42 and again after war service in the Far East, from 1947-50. In 1955 he visited Canada here he travelled widely and worked with A.Y. Jackson. He was appointed resident tutor at the National Gallery of Canada Summer School, in Ottawa. In 1963 he was elected a member of RSW and five years later was elected an Associate of the RSA and a full member in 1979. He has taught at Edinburgh College of Art, 1960-88 and exhibited regularly in Scotland and London. He held his first retrospective exhibition in Kirkcaldy Art Gallery and at the Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh, in 1986. He also showed at Heal’s Gallery held his second retrospective at Kirkcaldy Art Gallery. In 1990 he has held the position of President of the RSA and his work is represented in the collections of Aberdeen Art Gallery, SAC and SNGMA he has also shown at the RWA and GI.
